Christmas Play 2009

Our Christmas play at church this year was called, "Christmas Caroling at Greenhill." Everyone had great time and the play turned out great! Here is a summary of the plot:

"A group of young carolers make stops at neighborhood homes and discover that Christmas is not only about love, joy, peace and happiness, but also about reaching out to others who might be lonely, in need, or just out of step with the social norm. Most importantly, they discover that Christmas is about Christ, son of God, born in a stable. and died on a cross to give us forgiveness and a purpose to our lives."

A few weeks ago I was telling people I had the swine flu (partially teasing). Little did I know we actually had the H1N1 flu. My brother was the first confirmed case in our county. It actually wasn't as bad as you would think the H1N1 would be. I just felt like I had a really horrible cold and was tired. Now, when I'm old, I can say,"Way back in 2009, my family lived through the H1N1 epidemic." ; )

We just got a fence built and a new pasture behind our house! Our animals are really liking the space and I am liking the ease of chores with it.

Adventureland

We went to Adventureland last Monday with two friends families. Since the area public schools opened that day, barely anyone was there. Our longest wait for a ride was only 10 minutes! We stayed from opening to closing and went all all but two rides(most rides multiple times). To add to the joy, the weather was great and we got free cotton candy!

Since I hadn't been to Adventureland for 5 or 6 years, I was pretty scared(in a fun way) of the rides. My throat still hurts from screaming almost a week ago. I'm pretty sure I would have had a heart attack if I would have rode the Spaceshot one more time.

My favorite ride was the Falling Star, we rode it way over 10 times! I very fondly remember screaming at the top of my lungs, flying into Lindsay and Becca at high speeds, Lindsay flying into me at high speeds, thinking the bar was broken and I was going to die, good times.......

My least favorite ride was the Side Winder. If you know what my regular scream sounds like, imagine that only 10 times worse. Apparently everyone on the ground got a big kick out of my terror.

I went to take a college entrance exam today and I did really well. I scored well enough that I could go to college right now. I JUST FINISHED 8th GRADE!

Today I passed out candy during a parade for a nearby town's 125th anniversary. A little boy went with me and I taught him to hand out candy, but it took him a while to catch on. LOL! The only bad part of it was that we got stuck walking along the NOISY tractors. My ears are still ringing....

I just got inside from my first time weed eating(yes, I'm almost 15 and have never weed eated before) and it was really fun! It wasn't as hard as I expected, but Blake and Mom said the weed eater sounded like it was going to explode. I had it on full speed the whole time AND when I wrote my name in the grass I kind of ripped out all the grass. Whops!!!!!!

Here is another email I sent that I found funny. We have a joint meeting at a nearby church once a year, but as far as I know, actually nobody goes. I was talking to our pastor this morning, and he suggested that instead of calling it "(name of nearby town withheld) Fun Days Joint Meeting, we could call this Sunday "Skip day'." How true! But, it is a nice break for the teachers, music leaders and pastor the needed it.

No church today. It's 7:00 am and I am drinking my coffee, haven't gotten ready for church and haven't had breakfast. It's insanely weird. I haven't skipped church for like 8 months. On a regular Sunday, I would probably be getting ready now. Today I am planning on cleaning my room (never got to it yesterday. Two days of motivation is too much), possibly getting my hair cut and highlighted, and possibly going to the creek

When I was at Walgreens picking up some prints for the county fair, I had like a 10 minute conversation with a lady who was ordering pictures(not out of character for me). When I asked the clerk what I'm supposed to put the pictures on since frames are against the rules and a random lady told me what to use and how to do it. She was a blue ribbon winner at the state fair in photography. Then she asked if she could see what I was entering and was really impressed with some of my pictures. = ) She gave me some advice and wished me the best of luck. It is such a blessing to run into people like that.

Hi Jessica,You know how I was going to finish deep cleaning my room today. Well, I haven't started yet. Instead I went to work, sent a few huge emails to you, played piano, talked to my aunts and cousin, talked to my mom and now am going on the computer. While I was cleaning out my antique drawers, I found this camera I forgot I had. It was my great grandpa's and it is one of the few of his things we have left. I ran upstairs and started googling. It is a 1936 Kodak Bullet Camera. Well, I better get back to cleaning.

Today our church's CWS, aka the old ladies's club,which I belong to, had its first Community Treasure Chest. A Community Treasure Chest is where we give away free clothes and garden produce. Surprisingly, we had lots of nice clothes. I was assigned to go around town, knock on peoples doors and tell them about it. Other than almost getting mauled a one eyed dog, I actually rather enjoyed it. I went to every house in town. Hey, I might have a future as a traveling sales person! Too bad nobody showed up. :( We are having it again next month and will hopefully have a better turn out.

This is a poem I wrote last Saturday night. After a busy week of farming and farm trauma, it seemed like the week just flew by in the blink of an eye. Please tell me if you have any name ideas for it and if you think it is any good.

Another week hast come and past,
The days and years are not to last,

It came to me in Old English, but it kind of sounds silly. I rewrote it in more modern way.

The weirdest dream yet

This is a dream I had, NOT REAL. I copied and pasted this from an IM conversation, so please excuse the extreme lack of punctuation.

my sibling and I, Nate and Katie and my cousin Aleah
walked a few miles after church to go to a river
a HUGE river
it was 3 times bigger than the Des Moines River
and had water skis and those water pillows from Wipeout
everyone except Nate, lily and I went down to go swimming
I was looking over the edge of the bridge
and this HUGE (like room sized) white otter went swimming under the bridge
I yelled"Look, it's an otter"
and ran to the other side
when Nate looked over the edge, you slipped and went falling into the river
with the creepy giant white otter
as Nate was falling, he yelled "go get help!"
so I ran back to church ,but I was wearing a skirt so it took a really long time
when I got back
EVERYONE at church was getting ready for this engagement party Ben and Carolyn(Nate and Katie's brother and his fiance) were having
and wouldn't listen to me when I tried to get someone to come and save everyone
so I stayed for the party
it was a really fancy party
and we ate hash brown caseroll
and jello
I know, weird.
after the party
my mom went to save everyone
but it turns out everyone was wearing life jackets and Nate swam to the side after he fell off the bridge
and everyone was playing in the river
I went in and started swimming
then I realized I was listing to music
my Ipod was IN THE WATER
when I got out of the water, it busted.

Our swingset fell over.

It's hard to see, but this window is shattered.
This is the picture that was on TV during the news today.

It all started at 2:30 in the morning whenI woke up to what I thought was pots and pans dropping. Then I heard my dad shout," Get downstairs" and I heard people running to my brother's room. I got up and everyone said that it was storming and the kitchen window was smashed. I stayed up for a little while, thinking the house was going to be ripped to shreds in the next few minutes, but after about 3 minutes I realized that it was just a storm and went back to bed. When I woke up, we went to go check out the damage (pictures above).

Our original plan for the day was to go swimming at one of our friend's house, so when another one of my friend's mom called and invited me shopping, I couldn't go. : (

Later on our grandpa called and needed help picking up branches after the storm so we couldn't go swimming. : (

This morning I sent in this picture to the news TV station. We watched the news at twelve and were disappointed to see it wasn't on. I was also sad about missing out on shopping and swimming. Now the sun is shining, the power is on and they day doesn't seem 1/2 as bad as it did at 12:00.

Today I went to my second service at Union Chapel (click here and here for last years pictures). Since I love old buildings, churches a family history, it isn't surprising I instantly fell in love with this place. It was built in 1877 and my great grandpa's great grandpa was one of the original stockholders (and he is buried in the cemetery behind it). Sometimes I wonder if my ancestors sang the same songs we were singing or sat in the same pew.

I was also thinking about wearing authentic clothes, but I decided I would look way too out of place because nobody else would have worn them with me. Mom say that the people from our church wouldn't think anything of it because that is just be, it would be the visitors that would wonder.

This year I got to play "Seek Ye First in Cannon Settings" for prelude. The piano is as old as the church and has very sticky keys. When I was practicing, I was able to play through it all right, but they were not cooperating during service! Somehow I got through it all right though.

The church has no electric or plumbing so we had service with the windows open. I really loved having the cool breeze blow through every so often and the natural lighting was a pleasant change from our regular church's stuffy darkness.

While I was ridding the horse this afternoon a song we sang earlier came into my head, 'The Old-fashioned Meeting" (look it up if you don't know it!). My thoughts are hard to pinpoint exactly but, Maybe things are better in the old fashion way.......

Yesterday we went to the Omaha zoo, a Danish windmill museum and a Missouri River museum( I forgot the names). We left before 8 in the morning and got back round 8 at night! That is a long day for my family. Yet again,it is hard to describe, so I'll let the pictures do most of the work and I'll tell a few funny stories.

My family eats mostly only homemade food, so on vacation we eat junk food like Hostess cupcakes, Goldfish crackers, Capri Sun, granola bars, ect. When my mom bought the Capri Sun, my sister said,"I love cariisssun(that is how she pronounced it). I never thought you would buy me any!" LOL!

In Western Iowa, there are hundreds of wind turbines. My siblings got so excited whenever they saw one and started snapping pictures like crazy. Eventually, my dad said," Wind turbines are a dime a dozen, once you've seen one, you've seen them all." They disagreed.

My family went caving yesterday. It was a 7 hour round trip(which is HUGE for us). Thanks to my somehow still working mp3 player, silly putty, and my humorous little sister, I survived. The caving part was fun, difficult and exhausting. It required crawling through 12 inch holes, getting soaked and bruised. It is hard to describe, so I'll let the pictures do the work.

This is an old church or schoolhouse that was by the highway on our way to caving. I fell in love with it and forced my parents to pull over and let me take a picture. I wanted to go inside to find out for sure what it was; but since that is illegal I made due with these. Isn't it the most quaint and charming thing?!? What do you think it is?

Church was really funny today!

First, there was some hymnal dropping.

During children's time all the little kids passed out flowers to all the mothers. The whole thing was kind of funny to watch. Also, when they went by the "cool row", the childrens time lady said,"Who do we have here? Nope, no mothers." It was kind of embarrasing.

One little boy said"Give one to that lady".
The children's time lady said,"Which lady?"
"The one in the green shirt."
The lady in the green shirt was my mom. LOL!

There must have been some laughing gas in our Sunday School room because we couldn't stop laughing, even though nothing was really all that funny. Just our normal, wacky sunday school stuff, which some people might consider funny.

I went thrift shopping today and got a lot of awesome stuff! I got 2 ankle-length jean skirts (one is more comfortable than any sweatpants), 2 shirts(one is really unusual and cute), some pajama pants and a pair of boots. The boots are so awesome, but were really expensive and it nearly killed me, but I am glad I won't have to suffer next winter wearing flats to church. : )

I also found a shirts my friend Jessica and Gabby would have hated. The anti-jessica shirt was pink, had puffy sleeves and was covered in lace. I know how much you love lace Jessica ; ). Gabby hates puffed sleeves and the anti-gabby shirt had really puffy sleeves. I almost got them for them as a joke.

(Almost) all my stuff is breaking!!!!!!! My bed is all flat and has permanent indentions, and it is the newest bed in our house. My mp3 player has been on it's last leg for months(it is only working still by the grace of God) and both of my earbud sets have issues. Our piano hasn't been tuned for about 5 years. Even my MSN is acting funky! But should I really be complaining? NO! I have a bed, I have an mp3 player, I have a piano and I have MSN. That is A LOT more than most people in the world have.

6. Save money, learn some life skills, do your chores and prepare for the future!
7. Clothes don't matter, make-up doesn't matter, being skinny doesn't matter, things don't matter. Being the best you can be is what matters"

Kate and Nate's birthday party

I just got home from Kate and Nate's 14th birthday party. It was really fun! We hiked, ate, went on a treasure hunt, had an airsoft gun war(only the boys and lily) and I went canoeing. We got them boots, rubiks cubes, Burt's Bee's stuff(Kate) and a nerf gun(Nate) They always have awesome parties at their grandparents farm. Hopefully Terry will post some pictures. The book sale went well. We didn't sell a ton, it was more of a social event. I did buy a Bible for 25 cents and a devotional for $1. I also encouraged a nice lady I know and told her about my favorite book series.

Yesterday, I realized that I am pathetic. At the library, my mom came up to me and said,"On one of the computers, someone just looked up bacteriology books. I wonder who it could be?" That person was me. Sadly, no library has a good bacteriology book selection. : ( Then she asked to see my books I was checking out. The titles were Mutations. Frugal families, Handwriting Analysis, Practical Goat Keeping and Farming and a few more science and money saving books. I said, "I'm pathetic, aren't I?" Mom laughed and said, "Kind of."

Tomorrow, I am going to a curriculum sale. I will sell books while my mom goes and buys some. I am really looking forward to it. How pathetic is that?!?!

While most people my age are reading Twilight, I am reading about the cause of mutations and how to save money. Rather odd, isn't it?
